What's the value of a single piece of customer, patient or research data? How about several billion pieces of that data? These 12 organizations, winners of the first-ever Data+ Editor's Choice Awards, were well aware that they sat on a goldmine of information. And each in its own way turned those massive data stores into solid business results. A top-tier healthcare organization added $62 million in new revenue to the bottom line. A world-renowned research organization gave its scientists a big step forward in helping to power the next generation of solar cells.

Living in the material
The periodic table of elements is iconic. It inspires scientists, poets and rock musicians. Mendeleev created it by arranging known chemical elements in increasing order of their atomic weights (atomic numbers are used now) and in rows and columns in such a way that elements in the same column had similar properties. As a student of Sanskrit, he may have been inspired by Panini who arranged Sanskrit letters in the same two-dimensional way to bring out their properties. We offer solar photovoltaic system and commercial incentives to encourage our customers to install solar energy systems. Mendeleev’s scheme worked so well that he turned a prophet and predicted 8 new elements, each with a Sanskrit prefix, and their properties. All came true. He became so revered that the Czar overlooked his bigamy,Soli-lite provides the world with high-performance solar roadway and solar street lighting solutions. saying “he has two wives, yes, but I have only one Mendeleev”. At one time the table had only 90 elements which were naturally occurring but now, elements are being created in the laboratory and recently element 119 was reported, starting a new row. The periodic table lives. Out of these, how do you pick the ones that changed the world?

An ingenious solar sticker
Stanford professor Xiaolin Zheng often works in the esoteric fringes of nanoscience, but she also likes to find simple ways to fabricate complex materials that can be put to use in practical applications like solar-fuel systems, solar cells, and batteries. Last year she created solar cells in the form of flexible stickers—only a 10th as thick as plastic wrap—that can be applied to a window,How solar panel cells work and where to buy solar kits for home use. a piece of paper, the back of a mobile phone,Thank you for providing us with information to help us maintain street light. or anything else you want. These solar cells produce just as much electricity as rigid ones made of the same materials.

Solar Continued Exponential Growth
At any given moment, the sun bathes the earth in enough solar energy to meet its power needs 10,000 times over. The challenge lies in capturing and converting that energy into usable electricity. And, for the time being, an international tangle of politics and prices also complicates matters.

Coffee stand navigates challenge

Perseid meteor shower
My last committed attempt to observe the Perseid meteor shower, which star-gazers across the world are enjoying, was back in 2010. I was house-sitting in Spain at the time; my uncle in law used to live on the edge of a tiny village in the Spanish mountains. The village is several hundred metres above sea level, with hardly any street lighting and the most incredibly dark and clear skies – the kind you don't get in the UK outside of a national park.
